Let me just start by saying that never in a million years did I think I would be sitting here typing about how I captured an engagement session during a solar eclipse. Even if it was just a partial eclipse in our area it’s still amazing. Something that you get rare chances to witness. But very much worth the effort and thought that went into this.
The engagement session with Candace and Clark was originally scheduled for May 13th… Oops, I forgot it was mother’s day and my wife might kill me if I schedule yet another shoot during a special date. They understood my request to reschedule for the following Sunday May 20th. And then news came out about the Solar Eclipse, and a light bulb lit up on top of my head. How awesome would it be to capture that as a background to the session! I bought a Neutral Density Filter that diminishes the light by up to 8 stops. Basically like putting sun glasses on on a camera lens. I looked up the time that the eclipse would be happening and I practiced shooting the sunset a few days before the session. There is only one chance to get it right, or you’ll be waiting for many more years to try again 🙂
We started our session in Rocky River Park, Clark knew of some sweet areas in the park and we ended at Huntington Beach to catch the sunset. I’m so very happy to have captured these images for them. Can’t wait for the wedding.
