This wedding was personal in more ways than one. I’ve know Monica for around five years now and we have become very close friends. We worked together in the food industries and I’ve become very familiar with her story. So when I found out that she was engaged it was a no brainer that I had to capture her special day. For years Monica and her family have been sad by the battle for cancer that has consumed her father’s health. Many days would Monica burst into tears at work and I was there to listen. An up and down struggle that led to one wish… that her father was there to walk her down the isle. The situation became worst when they found out that her mother was also suffering from cancer. I could tell that it felt like the world ended. Monica would get out of work to visit one parent at the hospital to travel across town to visit the other. On top of it all she was very busy planning her wedding and taking care of her household. But always keeping positive, thinking that both her parents would be there to witness her marriage. It is my honor to say that I was there to witness and capture her wedding and that both her parents where present. I’ve never seen her so happy before.
When she was getting ready I notice a pendant that was a blue butterfly tagged on her dress. I ask her why she had it on… she said ” I told my mother that today I felt as beautiful as a butterfly”.
